Fossilised Sunrise

If you pick the right conditions where the tide and swell are calmest, it’s possible to hop over the steppingstones to Fossil Island.

Located only a short distance from the Blowhole car park and lookout, the gap is a naturally occurring theatre for framing the sun as each day emerges. But only occurs in the center of the gap only briefly each year.

The powerful forces of nature calve up the deepening channel walls, smashing sandstone into bite-sized pieces smoothed for the sea to swallow.
